The project was to design a mixed use building for the client, Julie DeVita, an interior designer, artist, and grandmother. The building consists of studio, gallery, and living spaces located in Red Bank, New Jersey. The site is in the midst of a commercial and residential district.
Through our research, my partner and I found contradictions within the site and contradictions within the desires of our client, Julie DeVita. Our goal was to incorporate these opposites though a balance, establishing a common thread. This thread was the light that represents Julie and her needs, no matter how conflicting they were. The light served to organize her movement throughout this building as she transitions between her living, studio, and gallery spaces on a daily basis.
