Currently Germantown lacks a defined town center. As a result the main streets of Germantown Ave and Chelten Ave are composed of mostly vacant retail and residential space; this in essence makes Germantown a transient area, as the residents must leave to find shops, restaurants, and activities. The lack of a town center, combined with a currently underutilized Vernon Park, has created a condition in which the town feels unresolved, lending itself only to the historic buildings and remnants of the once prosperous past.
Our Vision Statement is to create a newly defined town center in Vernon Park. The design of which incorporates elements of education, community and recreation. This new center is accessed and supported by newly created green thoroughfares, and further developed by new mixed use architecture, as well as historic building rehabilitation.
