Germantown Community Theater_Fall2013

  • Germantown REACH (Recreational Exploritory Actors Community House) is a volunteer-based non-profit community theater, which showcases the talents of people from the Philadelphia region. The theater serves as a catalyst for the regeneration of the arts scene in Philadelphia. The inspirtation behind the project was the idea of reaching out to the community of Germantown. The introverted existing building served as inspirtation for the designer to physically “reach out” to the community.
  • Precedents
  • Inspiration: The concept of reaching out to the community, similar to how a tree reaches out to its environment.
  • DESIGN CONCEPT: To take an introverted building and transform it into a gathering space that reaches out to the community. The design expands the buildings physical limits, blurs the edge between exterior and interior space, and creates a controlled public theater space.
