By observing trends between vacancies, green spaces, food access, public transportation and surrounding bike networks, Germantown is able to be pieced together through a series of connections along the once industrious Chestnut Hill East rail line.
This corridor stretches the length of Germantown and holds several key nodes through the neighborhood, continuing into Mount Airy and serving Philadelphia area. Germantown station lies at the intersection of the neighborhood’s commercial corridor and Septa’s R7 regional rail line.
This design utilizes the principles of transit oriented development at Germantown Station to increase ridership and engagement. Through the integration of food access and public space surrounding mass transit, Germantown progresses from a stop on the train to a destination for all of Philadelphia
