Community Library

  • Libraries, which were once a setting for discovery and exploration, have evolved into a portal for the immediate retrieval of information and formal social interaction. The Intent for this design is to embrace the change in the library typology through weaving user specific program through the space , while surrounding users with feelings of curiosity and discovery through the enclosure.
Starting at the sidewalk the weaving program focuses on and suggests their natural progression through the space to become social users, browsers, studiers, or readers. The skin of the library complements the program through its undulations, material, and geometry while providing the character of discovery and curiosity that is inherently lost due to the development of the typology. The unexpected anticipation of walking down an aisle of books and stumbling upon something enticing is a personal experience of discovery that is reinvented via the enclosure.
