The Calatrava prototype is an homage to Santiago Calatrava’s pursuit of beauty through structure. “A bridge is born of necessity, but it must establish its own identity. It should harmonize with its surroundings, and the design must transcend the purely local and transform the setting.” -Calatrava
The Calatrava prototype takes its inspiration from the exposed structure, minimalist Ariel Atom. The front end will be, much like the Ariels, formula one inspired open wheel design. However, the rear tires will be housed within the hunch of the arched frame. Air will be pulled from side mounted scoops mounted in front of the rear tires to redirect air to the Honda sourced Vtec engine that will be mated to a transaxle to deliver power directly to the rear wheels.
The prototype will continue to distance itself from the competition by utilizing a unique fabric wrap for body panels akin to BMW’s GINA concept.
