The E.U.R. is an area outside of Rome that is primarily a residential and business district. This area was chosen for the 1942 world’s fair where Benito Mussolini planned to open the area showcasing 20 years of fascism. This area was neversubject to completion due to the second World War.
The concept for this project was permeability by viewing the site as pedestrian thoroughfare as well as a congration zone. Through the site design there are pathways that strongly become visible that relate to the specific pedestrian movements of the site.
The pathways that permeate through the site are focused around a small reflection pool that is lined with trees that act as guide through the site.
The facade was a study on how to find the balance between vertical and horizontal elements to create a facade that is aestheticly appealing as well as a solar shading device for the users of the building. Through the double height balcony space the apartments are connected through this open air space.
The plan focused on providing the user with a connection to the site through terrace areas that faced the central courtyard of the site and the other side orientated to the lake and green area opposing the site.
