Design 5: Bookstore

  • This project was designed while I was studying abroad in Rome, Italy for the Fall Semester of 2016.  It is a large scale bookstore located in the Ligini Towers complex in the EUR, Rome.  The site is located in the most modern area of Rome.  The project was to create a bookstore within the low-rise building of the site.  The Fourth year Architecture students' project was to develop the site and the facades of the five buildings.  I chose one of the groups' project as the site for my bookstore. The task was to choose a client and design the bookstore around their interests.  This bookstore is called Adagio: a Bookstore for Dancers.  The concept of the design developed from the contrast of fluidity and structure of ballet movement and form.

  • Exterior Elevation: Facade designed by Fourth year Architecture student group with sustainable elements of PV panels and green walls. Modeled in Revit, rendered in Photoshop.
  • Ground Floor Plan: Drafted in Autocad. The direction for the project was to apply hatches for material changes rather than Photoshop rendering.

  • Section: This section displays the four story wall of bookcases and staircases, cut through the gallery space. It also shows the metal mesh design elements extending through the exterior facade. Drafted in Autocad.
  • Section: This section display the interior core of the building, the reading spaces, event space, and the atrium cafe space. Drafted in Autocad, rendered in Photoshop.
  • Custom Detail: Bookcase display. Drafted in Autocad.
  • Detailed plan: Cafe. The cafe is located in the center of the core. It is the point in which all of the metal mesh design elements intersect. It is the gathering space of the bookstore for customers to interact with others in their field. Drafted in Autocad.
