This project was inspired by my Family's service work in Guatemalan Informal Settlements. I hoped to open the eyes of people in developed countries that may have limited knowledge on the topic. While the living conditions are astounding, there is a beauty within the people and community life that shows an resilience in the face of extreme poverty.
Exhibits on the first floor are abstracted examples of life within certain communities around the globe - incorporating sound, touch, and smell to the visual experience. The second floor focused on the community, volunteer efforts, and sharing of stories. These exhibits circle a build room that allows groups to come and assemble a mock homes that replicate the models used by volunteer groups. The museum is meant to inspire visitors to become involved in the bettering of Informal Settlements around the globe as well as show how everyday people can change lives in incredible ways.
