Design 10 - Stewardson Competition
The Stewardson Competition is a 10-day design competition that takes place between several Pennyslvania universities, each year focusing on a different theme and location. This year's Stewardson Competition was centered on honoring designer George Nakashima and his Altars of Peace within Iceland's Thingvellir National Park, the gathering place of history's oldest parliament. The competition asked for a nondenominational sanctuary and meditation space that would allow the users to appreciate and respect Nakashima's works. No outside help or criticisms of the design proposal were permitted so the project is a glimpse into the student's design values without outsider perceptions.
